Metamorphosis | (After) All things laid dormant riunisce i risultati della ricerca di Benedetta Casagrande negli ultimi anni, in cui ha sviluppato una pratica biocentrica che utilizza il mezzo fotografico per indagare le forme di vita più-che-umana e le relazioni interspecifiche in tempi di rovina ambientale. Casagrande approccia la fotografia come un processo di contaminazioni, incontri e metamorfosi materiali e posiziona la sua pratica all’incrocio tra arte ed ecologia.
Per imprimere alcune delle immagini fotografiche presenti in mostra ha sperimentato con dei chimici a bassa tossicità fatti in casa utilizzando piante raccolte nei pressi del suo studio. Le sculture in ceramica, invece, sono state placcate con l’argento recuperato dal fissante fotografico scartato dai processi di stampa analogica. Queste dinamiche di reciprocità e restituzione tra la camera oscura e il territorio circostante consentono a Casagrande di attivare una micro-economia circolare.

Metamorphosis | (After) All Things Laid Dormant brings together the results of Benedetta Casagrande’s research over recent years, during which she has developed a biocentric practice that uses the photographic medium to investigate more-than-human forms of life and interspecies relationships in times of environmental collapse. Casagrande approaches photography as a process of contamination, encounters, and material metamorphoses, positioning her practice at the intersection of art and ecology.
To produce some of the photographic images presented in the exhibition, she experimented with low-toxicity, homemade chemicals derived from plants collected near her studio. The ceramic sculptures, on the other hand, are plated with silver recovered from photographic fixer discarded during analog printing processes. These dynamics of reciprocity and restitution between the darkroom and the surrounding territory allow Casagrande to activate a micro circular economy.
