Based in Manchester, Tulani Hlalo works with textiles, video, sound, sculpture and performance; using her work to explore identity and heritage.

The self-exploratory works, Fatherland and Motherland, were completed in 2016 in Newcastle Upon Tyne and Zimbabwe respectively and represent a reconnection with her heritage as an adult by documenting her return to the place she was raised and no longer lives (Newcastle), and her first visit to Bulawayo since childhood.

The two landscapes showing the tumultuous interaction of her genealogy.

The videos, presented on the occasion of Giornata del Contemporaneo promoted by AMACI, introduce Tulani Hlalo’s work in light of her upcoming production for Almanac’s exhibition programme in Turin.
