On the occasion of Soukaina Abrour's first solo exhibition, curator and researcher Simone Frangi will be in conversation with the artist to reflect on her practice and the new production presented at Almanac.
Simone Frangi (Italy, 1982), curator and researcher.
Simone Frangi works at the intersection of critical thinking, curatorial research, and education. He currently serves as professor of Theory of Contemporary Art at the École Supérieure d’Art et Design in Grenoble. He directs with Alessandro Castiglioni Live Works - Free School of Performance at Centrale Fies of Trento and runs A Natural Oasis?, a Transnational Research Programme. In 2021 he became Senior Curator of MEDITERRANEA19 - School of Waters. In 2021 he also co-published with Lucrezia Cippitelli the anthology Colonialità e Culture Visuali in Italia (Mimesis, 2021). Since 2023 he has been curator in charge of contemporary art exhibitions at Kunst Meran Merano Arte with Lucrezia Cippitelli.
Soukaina Abrour (Morocco, 1997) artist
Raised in Italy since 2000, Abrour graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice. Her research investigates the construction of the self in the human and non-human multitudes, past and future, through fabulation and its materialization in new forms. In 2022 she participated with BJCEM in a residency for Procida Capital of Culture. In 2023 she won the Agitu Ideo Gudeta Fellowship, conceived by Razzismo Brutta Storia, BHMF and Centrale Fies, the residency with MilanoMediterranea and participated in the Farout festival at BASE Milano.

Simone Frangi lavora all'intersezione tra pensiero critico, ricerca curatoriale e formazione. Attualmente è professore di Teoria dell'arte contemporanea presso l’École Supérieure d’Art et Design di Grenoble. Dirige con Alessandro Castiglioni Live Works - Free School of Performance presso la Centrale Fies di Trento e gestisce A Natural Oasis?, un programma di ricerca transnazionale con Alessandro Castiglioni. Nel 2021 è diventato curatore senior di MEDITERRANEA19 - School of Waters. Nel 2021 ha anche pubblicato con Lucrezia Cippitelli l'antologia Colonialità e Culture Visuali in Italia (Mimesis, 2021). Dal 2023 è curatore responsabile delle mostre d'arte contemporanea di Kunst Meran Merano Arte con Lucrezia Cippitelli.
Soukaina Abrour (Marocco, 1997), artista.
Cresciuta in Italia dal 2000, Soukaina Abrour è laureata all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia, e vive e lavora tra Milano e Venezia. La sua ricerca indaga la costruzione del sé considerando le sue moltitudini umane e non umane, passate e future, attraverso la fabulazione e la sua materializzazione in nuove forme. Nel 2022 ha partecipato con BJCEM a una residenza per Procida Capitale della Cultura. Nel 2023 ha vinto la Agitu Ideo Gudeta Fellowship, ideata da Razzismo Brutta Storia, BHMF e Centrale Fies. Nello stesso anno ha vinto la residenza con MilanoMediterranea e partecipato al festival Farout a BASE Milano.
